Why sail the Turkish Aegean

The coast between Bodrum and Fethiye is short-hop sailing at its most forgiving. Pine runs down to the water, the bays are deep and calm, and you rarely need more than three or four hours under sail to reach the next anchorage. Water sits warm from June to September. The gulet tradition means many bays have a pontoon and a family restaurant that will take your lines and cook the day's catch — you eat well and pay less than you would across the Aegean in Greece.

We like it for the mix. You can spend a week barely leaving the Gulf of Fethiye and never anchor in the same cove twice, or push west past Marmaris toward Bodrum for longer legs and busier towns. It suits first charterers and families as readily as sailors who want distance.

Aegean questions

Asked and answered.

How much does a yacht charter in the Turkish Aegean cost?
It depends on the boat and the week. A bareboat monohull in May, June or September sits at the affordable end; a large crewed catamaran or gulet in peak August is the top. On top of the boat price, budget for fuel, an end-cleaning fee and a refundable deposit, plus per-day skipper or cook costs if crewed. Send your dates and group size on WhatsApp for a firm quote — price on request.
Do I need a licence to charter bareboat in Turkey?
To bareboat you'll normally need a recognised sailing qualification — an ICC or equivalent national certificate — plus some logged experience, and often a VHF radio certificate. Requirements vary by base and boat, so tell us what you hold and we'll confirm what's accepted. No licence, or not confident in these waters? Hire a skipper for the week and step aboard as guests instead.
When is the best time to sail the Aegean coast?
May, June, September and early October are our pick: warm water, steadier daytime breeze and fewer boats competing for the popular bays. July and August are hot and reliable but busy — anchorages fill by late afternoon, so plan to arrive early. The meltemi from the north-west is strongest around Bodrum and the Gökova Gulf in high summer; the Gulf of Fethiye stays sheltered.
Where should I start my charter?
Göcek and Fethiye are the easiest bases for a first week — sheltered islands and pontoon coves within short hops, and a quick transfer from Dalaman airport. Marmaris suits those wanting a bigger town and passages toward the Greek islands. Bodrum and Turgutreis, up the north-west coast, give livelier towns and longer open legs. One-way charters between bases can often be arranged — ask us.
Is the Turkish Aegean good for families and first-timers?
Yes. The Gulf of Fethiye and the Göcek islands are among the gentlest sailing grounds anywhere — short hops, deep calm bays, warm water and plenty of swim stops. Catamarans give families more space and shallow-draft access to the coves. If you'd rather not skipper, hire a skipper who knows the anchorages and how the meltemi behaves, and let everyone relax.
Can I sail from Turkey to the Greek islands?
You can, but it needs paperwork. Crossing to islands like Rhodes, Symi or Kos requires the boat's transit log and formal clearance out of Turkey and into Greece, which takes time and adds cost. Not every bareboat charter permits it. If you want a cross-border week, tell us at booking so the base can prepare the documents and confirm the boat is allowed to leave Turkish waters.
Which airport do I fly into?
For Göcek, Fethiye, Marmaris and Orhaniye bases, fly into Dalaman — roughly 20-40 minutes to Göcek and about an hour to Marmaris by transfer. For Bodrum and Turgutreis, use Bodrum-Milas airport. Both handle direct summer flights from much of Europe. Provision in the base town on arrival; supermarkets in all four hubs are well stocked. We can help arrange a transfer — just ask on WhatsApp.
How many yachts can I charter in Aegean?
Right now there are 459 active yachts in Aegean, based out of Göcek, Bodrum Harbour, Fethiye, Orhaniye, Setur Göcek Village Port, Marmaris Adakoy Marina, Bodrum, Göcek/D-Marin, Marmaris, Fethiye port, Göcek Mucev Marina, Bodrum/Turgutreis/D-Marin, Bodrum Yat Limani Marina, Marmaris Yacht Marina, Göcek/Skopea Marina and Belediye Marina. The fleet list above is live from our operator system.
Bareboat or crewed in Aegean?
374 of the boats here are bareboat, 85 come crewed. Tell us your experience level and we'll match you.
