Frequently asked questions.
Booking, payments, licences, on-board life — the questions our team gets most.
Booking
Booking a charter.
How far in advance should I book?
3-6 months ahead for July/August is standard — the popular Lagoon 46 catamarans in Split get booked out by March. Shoulder season (May, June, September) is easier — 4-8 weeks ahead is fine. Last-minute (under 4 weeks) is possible — see /last-minute for current availability.
Can I hold a boat while I decide?
Yes — we can place a 7-day option hold on most boats with no payment. After 7 days the operator releases the hold and the boat goes back into the pool. Some peak-season boats can't be held — we'll tell you upfront.
What's the deposit?
Usually 30% to confirm the booking, balance 6 weeks before departure. Some operators ask for 50% — that's flagged in your quote.
Do you charge a booking fee?
No. Our commission comes from the operator side, not yours. The price you see on the quote is the price you pay.
Payments
Payment & deposits.
What payment methods do you accept?
Bank transfer (preferred, no fees), credit card (Visa/Mastercard, 2.5% fee), or Wise. For larger luxury charters we sometimes use escrow — ask if you'd like that.
What's the damage deposit?
Bareboat: €2,000–€5,000 held by card at check-in, refunded at end of week if all clear. Crewed charters use an APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance) of ~30% of charter fee for running costs — this is separate from damage deposit.
What's a hidden cost I should know about?
Tourist tax in Croatia (€1.50–€2/person/night), water taxis if you can't get a marina berth, and the captain's daily food allowance on skippered charters (€25–€35/day). We list these on every quote.
Are deposits refundable?
Yes — if you cancel within the operator's timeframe. See /help/cancellations for the breakdown.
On board
Life on the boat.
What's included in the boat?
Linens (bedsheets + towels), full galley kit, dinghy + outboard, snorkel gear (usually), gas for the cooker. You buy your own food and drink — we can pre-provision through the operator if you prefer.
Can we have pets on board?
Some boats accept dogs — case-by-case. Crewed and luxury usually accept pets; bareboat varies. Tell us at quote stage.
Is there Wi-Fi?
Most boats now have 4G hotspots that work near coast. Open sea = no signal. Catamarans + luxury yachts often have Starlink. We can specify which boat has what.
Can I bring a paddleboard / wakeboard / scuba kit?
Yes — there's deck space. If you need to rent SUPs / wakeboards on board, most operators offer them as an add-on (~€100–€200/week).
What about kids?
Most boats welcome kids. Catamarans are the easiest (no heeling, lots of deck space, shallow draft so you can swim off the back). Add safety nets + jacklines for under-10s — operators provide on request.
Changes
Changes & cancellations.
Can I change my dates after booking?
Usually yes — we can shift dates if availability allows. There's no charge if more than 6 weeks out; inside 6 weeks the operator decides (most charge nothing if the boat re-sells).
What if my flight is cancelled?
Tell us immediately. We've been through every scenario — flight to a nearby airport, ferry to base, captain meets you at a different marina, half-day refund. We'll work it out.
Can I switch boats?
If the new boat is available — yes. Price difference applies.
What about cancellation insurance?
Strongly recommended. We don't sell it but we can point you at the brokers we trust (Topsail, BoatInsure).
